however there is no 'pope' like figure or heirarchy in Islam - Islam and the Quran is open to interpretation - which gives way to ikhtilaaf - difference of opinion. Yet these arose out of interpreting text - not that Muhammad's purpose was to create differences of opinion - His was to convey the Message.
