Tips for women travellers

Is it still difficult for women to travel in Egypt alone? My friend travelled there about seven or eight years ago and he said that he met many solo women travellers who had troubles even getting a hotel room unless they rented it with a male partner! They also had problems with guys grabbing them and making indecent remarks. Is it still like that or have things gotten a little easier?

I think that indecent remarks, etc., towards women occur in quite a few countries. I had it happen to me plenty while I traveled in Central America. The things I was always told was to dress appropriately, and try to travel with at least one other person so that you were never alone.

I'm not sure what the current hotel renting situation is in Egypt, though.

I travel to Egypt alone frequently. I have no problems in getting hotel rooms, although it does annoy me having to pay ridiculous supplements a single room.
Hassle can be a problem, but I have never been grabbed by any men. Verbal nuisance is dealt with easily....... head down, no eye contact and walk right on by.

WEll, I am married but travel back and forth from the us alone. As long as you are pleasant and keep your answers short, you can easily get by. they are rather fond of a good looking woman and will try to chat. Wear a ring if you are not interested and refer to "a husband right away". And if you really ant them to stop, mention your EgyPTIan husband. They willl back off.
IF you are in a hotel, they are used to forward women from many countries. Just let them know right up front that you are not that way. Also, how you dress will be a possible invitation.

if i kept my head down it would be because the guy would be on the floor if anyone made a bad remark to me. So i don't really care if they make bad remarks just DON'T LET THEM GET TO YOU. If you don't let them get to you they will know your not interested and leave you alone.
