Names

Can someone please tell me is UMMITT A egyptian name please,i am puzzled as i met someone in Sharm in January and they say they are Egyptian,yet i have asked around and they say its not,i want to know whats this an arabic name or what thanks tracy.

hi there..we meet again...hah..
Umıt is derived from umut...which means hope(as you will know)
There are many Turkish names in Arabic and vice versa...coming from the time when the Ottoman Empire ruled vast areas of the Middle East....and there are many Turkish words that are derived from Arabic.
i find it very interesting...the same goes with the food...much of Egyptian cuisine come from the Ottoman era.
