They export a lot of cotton and tapestries so I imagine there are a lot of those types of stores. Not to mention Global brands like McDonalds in tourist areas and urbanized places.

I assume if you purchased a rug in an area that wasn't in a tourist region, you could get a better price?

Also, I wonder if the prices in the tourist areas rise and fall with the busier seasons?

I think maybe more important than the area would be the ability to bargain
about a price that will make both you and the seller happy. That's something
I've never gotten comfortable doing and I'm sure sellers can see me coming
a mile away.

I'm not very good at bartering in those situations, either.

I wonder if exporting Egyptian textiles of artwork would be a complicated business in terms of customs procedures, considering the attention given to some electronics that cross the borders?

I think it depends on what country they are exporting to ....I used to import some things from abroad and U.S. Customs isn't too hard to deal with. If it's a case of antiquities, as long as there is paperwork, they're fine.
