Western Franchises in Cairo?
Which of the Western or American franchises can I expect to see in Cairo?
Is it like all of the burger joints, or just a select few?

It's actually not what I want to see, but what I *don't* want to see. I concentrate on local food when I'm traveling but I was curious about how many of the franchises have been put up in Cairo. I haven't heard of Mango or Zara but Victoria's Secret I've heard of.

You bring up one of the things that so struck me about Cairo ...that it is such a crossroads for that area of the world. One knows how important it is from reading history and knowing how many different countries and people tried to conquer it to call their own!

One of the things that I find most fascinating is the mix of old and new. The modern cities so close to the ancient pyramids... it's just incredible to me.

Ok a couple questions...
I know McDonalds changes their menu depending on where they are. In Japan they serve different burgers than they do in the UK or the US. Is there anything you know of that is different on the menu? Also, in terms of being traditional and middle eastern how many women still dress in long robes and veils? I've seen pictures of Egypt and in certain parts everyone was wearing them. Just from that I thought it was a little odd places like victories secret and some of the more racey/designer clothing brands would open up shop. Are those pictures an accurate representation of what the majority of women wear and if so who shops at those stores?

Tang,
First for McDonalds Menu in Egypt, of course they have to provide something tradition, and that is McFalafel. Falafel is a sort of mxed veg. with brown beans mashed together then frie in deep oil. it is very popular in Egypt as consider to be a breakfast meal for most egyptian, even if we can eat it all day long. once you are here you will have to try it.
For women wearing long dresses yes they are a lot , most are in poor areas of Egypt and small villages.
but as well do not forget that the polulation of Egypt is 77 millions, means that at least there are 10 million women and girls can dress western cloths. and i am sure if we have one branch of Mango , one branch of Zara , one branch of victoria's secret and one branch of Next then i am sure they will be very busy all the time with women trying .
i was in Mango yesterday with my sister and we had to que for 25 mnts to pay , can you imagine ?????
