Cuisine : Other middle eastern
Main ingredients : Baladi bread, Minced meat, Spices
Time of preparation : 30 Minutes
Time of cooking : 40 Minutes
Serving : 5


Ingredients

1 kg Minced Meat
5-6 loaves Bread,baladi
3 Onions,chopped
1 Green Chili Pepper,cut into very small pieces
1 Tomato,small size, grated
1/2 cup Corn Oil Crystal
2 tbsp All Spices
1/4 tsp Nutmeg
Salt and Pepper

Directions

In a food processor or a meat grinder, mix minced meat, onions, chili pepper, tomato, all spices, nutmeg, salt and pepper.
Open quarter of bread loaves on the side. Divide meat mixture inside bread and spread with your hands to make an even layer about ¾ cm thick. Spread meat till the edges.
Brush bread loaves from both sides with oil. Put each loaf on a piece of aluminum foil and fold the sides over the loaf.
Heat oven to 200 C. Put hawawshi folded in aluminum foil in oven on the middle rack for about 30-40 minutes until meat is cooked and bread becomes crispy. Serve immediately.

Excellent. Thanks, will keep you posted on how it turns out. I buy it here in Hurghada made with minced meat, will give that a go also. Next to Koshari it is my favourite.

yes mushtaq that is very true , i loved that in Turkey almost had a week eating it. the only different is we put the meat between the bed. and cover it with foil. then in the oven , also the kind of bread that we use u can not find it any where else in the world.

Interesting.....will have to try that version - I think I will have to use round pitta bread, which is the nearest I think to Baladi we can find here.



Is this the Baladi bread, I have seen in Egyptian films people carry these from the bakery on large trays?

I made these this evening and they came out great, the pitta bread was not brilliant but very enjoyable, the meat was cooked well in the oven, I used to make it like the Turkish way, which was to grill it.

Now going to be making Hawawshi regularly, pretty easy too
