Shawerma...marinated meat and pita bread
well this reads delicious...ive never tried Tahini sauce before..and it all seems pretty straight forward...apart from the marinating time
Shawerma
Ingredients:
1/4 cup vinegar
1/4 cup olive oil
3 tbl lemon juice
3 cloves minced garlic
1/2 tsp cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, black & white pepper, dry fine oregano and salt
2 bay leaves
2 cups yogurt
1 tomato
1 1/2 lbs of lamb or beef sliced 1" x 2"
Steps:
Combine the first 8 ingredients in a bowl and marinate the lamb (or beef) in it for 6 hours.
Grease a saucepan with oil and heat.
Add the marinated lamb (or beef) and cook until tender.
Serve it with Pita bread and tahini sauce (see below), mint leaves, tomatoes and onions. (Alternatively, you may hook the pieces of meat on small wooden skewers and grill on charcoal until tender).
Tahini Sauce
Ingredients:
3 tbl sesame tahini
1 minced clove of garlic
1/2 tsp salt
3 tbl lemon juice
3 tbl water, or more
1 tbl plain yogurt
Steps:
Place tahini, garlic, salt and lemon juice in a small bowl and mix with a spoon.
Gradually add water until tahini becomes smooth.
Add chopped parsley and mix well.

Thanks for posting this receipe. My husband loves to try new things and I have been in a rut. This sounds awesome and seems fairly easy to make. I have never tried Tahini sauce either.

I can usually tell by reading a recipe if I'll like it or not... and this one I'd like. I think the cinnamon and oregano would give it a great flavor. I'll try beef instead of lamb... and that sesame and yogurt blend... YUM! I was looking around for pita recipes a few days ago and here is one.

This sounds amazing, I will definitely have to try it sometime. I'll probably use beef though because lamb makes my stomach turn a little bit, I never have been a huge fan of it.

Yes, same for me, but it's not readily available in my area, either. When I've had it, I've had to have it heavily disguised with some kind of mint accompaniment. I'm thinking the mixture of cinnamon and oregano would make the recipe very different and would taste great.

I always wanted to know what the sauce was made of, I will have to try it one of these days.

This recipe sounds delicious...thanks for sharing! I've had tahini sauce before (it's made from sesame, I believe, and tangy), and it's pretty good.

This looks like the perfect Sunday night recipe for my family, but I will use beef as well, like most of the other posters. Tahini is really good and I imagine that it goes quite well with this dish, I will just have to see if I can actually find it here!

That is the problem I am having. Where do you find this sauce? I wonder if there is some places on the internet because none of the places by me carry it.

I make a similar lamb for grilling but it's a Moroccan recipe. I love lamb and miss getting it super fresh in Scotland. It just isn't as popular in the States.
Tahini isn't my favorite so I substitute some minced garlic and cucumber in the yoghurt and it's great with fresh naan bread.
