First Egyptian Food?

What was the first food you had that was distinctly Egyptian? I think mine was some sort of bread. I can't remember exactly what it was, it wasn't too great but I've moved on to enjoy a lot of the food they have now.

My first Egyptian meal in Egypt was chicken, rice, melokheya and bread. Loved it all. took me a few years to find out what the orange strips in the rice was though!!!

Can anyone help me with a recipe for Koshari? I want to make it from scratch, including the bread.

So am I! All these foods sound so good and I'm going to have to start copying some Egyptian recipes down and do a theme meal with them. I can't wait for that! I don't recognize courgette... what is it exactly?

Yes I know you can buy Howowshi (spelling???) ready made, but I really would like to make it myself.
