Currency Exchange

I read that we shouldn't exchange our dollars, pounds or Euros till we get to Egypt because the conversion rate is far better there.

I also noticed that Scottish, Irish and New Zealand currency isn't accepted.

With ATM machines all over the world, there's not much point in pre-exchanging ...it's easier there and the rate is better.

Scottish and Irish currencies aren't accepted in the US either. I had a bunch of Bank of Scotland pounds which I couldn't change back here. It's rather silly since they are the same as English pounds but are printed by the Bank of Scotland or similar Scottish banks. Rolled up in the desk right now.

I wonder if the exchange rates differ between the ATMs at the airport and the ones in the cities. In other countries I've found better rates off the beaten path.

Also I sometimes like to have some currency for tipping or small purchases before I find the favourable rates of exchange.

I've found airport ATM exchange rates not so good, but it's a good place to get a little cash and still cheaper than buying it ahead of time at home. Banks are still the best rates.

Yes, I would have to agree that all the ATM's around make things alot more easier nowadays. Thanks for the tip about the rates at the airports. Good to know.
