Which city would you consider to be the best for a foreigner to live in? Do you think it is easier to live where there are plenty of other foreign residents, or somewhere that has very little outside influence?

I guess Hurghada or sharm are easy for foringers , everybody speak languages and alot of nice shops , easy life , maybe more expensive than big cites like cairo or Alex but i think you will feel more comfy.

Are there relatively large foreign populations in those two cities (Hurghada and Sharm)? Are the locals accepting, or at least tolerant of foreign residents?

I would imagine most people are tolerant of foreigners. I know a couple of countries I've been to in the area have been very nice to me as a complete stranger as long as you treat them with respect and make an effort to fit in.

Egyptians are very helpful and has been said before, if you are polite you will be met with smiles all round.
Luxor has a large foreign influx with English being widely spoken.
Hurghada has quite a few English but more Russian & Italian - English is not so widely spoken in the shops - or perhaps they just pretend they don't.
Can't speak for Sharm as have never been there.

Actually if u visit Hurghada ten years ago , you could find a lot ot brits, then it became more italian and german destination till the russian over booked the city ( lol ). now brits are coming back to Hurghada and there is a lot of investment from big tour operator and this summer will show more than 20 flights a week from Uk to Hurghada.


For sharm , it was only an Italian destination for the last ten years. Till russina started to go there , for the last two years there were a huge wave of brits to sharm ,right now there is 45 flights a week coming from Uk to sharm.

So you can imagine that everybody is speaking good English and there are a lot of brits staying in both destinations.

I live part time in Port Said. I have been there since Oct. I am an america woman married to an Egyptian man. I have not had any trouble as they are rather pleasant and patient with me as I try to figure out how much they told me something cost!! The city is beautiful, lots of shopping and even some restaurants to enjoy.
I am hoping to find more english speaking women there. I have met some who have been to america and are now back. Also I have met non egyptian english speaking women but want to meet more.

PortSaid is very beautiful city of Egypt, and i am sorry that i did not mention it in my prevouis posts. did not think there are that many non Egyptian still there. i had an aunt who lived there for 20 years before she died. and i used ot visit her alot , i mean all the time. i really enjoy the city there . and the beach is so great. Vicotira garden is really nice too.

Egyptian Sharm - yes I am well aware of how many Brits are coming each week to both Sharm & Hurghada being in the 'business' of tourism.
Perhaps in the Hotels, English is widely spoken, but certainly not in the small shops and even in some of the supermarkets.
Yes Russians seem to have taken over here.

Hi Cynic.I live in Turkey and the Russians are here in Force.Trouble is they only Book All Inclusive and never come out of the Hotel. Consequently many small businsses have closed which is not very good for anybody.Hope it doesn't get like that where you are or has it Happened ?
