What is it like living in Egypt from a locals viewpoint?

I mean living day to day on local earnings, because most of people visiting only see a very narrow view of the lives of local people.

Life is Egypt is too hard for most egyptians , only small percentege are comfy people. life is very expensive for egyptian , thank god i am having food job and good earning. otherwise i could be suffering.

Most Egyptians are well educated , but it is not a major thing here in Egypt becasue everyone goes to the universty. it is for free or almst free.

if we talk about life and living we need to write books, so please ask question and i will answer all.

Okay, you have me intrigued, hehe.

How is college/university free or mostly free in Egypt? I'm just wondering how that is funded. Seems like a pretty good thing to have.

Egyptian Sharm I do believe everything you say, but would point out that as a European living and working in Hurghada, it can be difficult for us also. Especially as I don't get a European salary. In fact the locals in my company get extra perks which I don't get i.e. accommodation allowance and living allowance. As no-one said that these were available at the time of interview it is now too late to ask for a package. Prices for Europeans are also a lot higher than for local people who cannot understand that if they visit the UK and ask for, just say a loaf of bread, we would both be charged the same.
Having said all that, I wouldn't change where I live now for the world. I love Egypt (well most of the time), but hate the time-keeping or lack of it!

i do not really what you are doing in hurghada but i have some foringers working for me in Hurghada and i am pretty sure they get european salaries plus all kind of allowances. plus free accommodation....

and i will tell u i am sure that pricing problem is changing now to a better situation , if you go to biig shops in Hurghada like Abu Ashara, u will find that everything is priced once , and they sell everything at the same price to Egyptians and non Egyptians.

specially in a while when the new tax law will come a live , even small shops can not cheat with pricing

Well I am envious of your staff if you do pay European salaries, allowances accommodation etc.

Yes you are quite right, Abu Ashara and Abaeid's - both supermarkets - do charge the same prices. I was thinking more of the small shops, fruit stalls, fruit market etc.

I don't quite understand how the new tax law will stop the cheating with prices.

One good thing though is the drop in prices by Egypt Air. That has always been quite a big difference. I wonder if the ferry to Sharm will do the same!

the new law of tax will help a lot becasue then u will have a reciept for all ur purchasing. even if you want to buy a newspaper. and it will be controlled by the goverment for taxing.

I guess the ferry will not change the prices for the time being as it is the only way to move between hurghada and sharm . they have the market .

I never know that there were two prices one for foreigners and one for locals? I also did not know that university education was free? If going to university is free you would think that people would be able to get better jobs with and education. Is there just not good paying jobs? Or does it just depend on what you go to school for on whether you would get a good paying job or not? Thanks.

to be very honist there is only one price for Egyptian and non Egyptian , but some ppl just cheatting. we have only different prices in Air tckts, train tckts, visiting the sights. and maybe other few services.

Universety in Egypt is free by law , of course thre are some private univ. that are better than the normal ones.and thank god yes there are good paying jobs , ( at least i have one , lol ) but they are few. and it does not matter what u studied , becasue at the end everybody in Egypt is well educated.
