Is it possible?

Hi,I have a couple of questions:
Is it possible to easily live in Egypt all year round or for a large part of the year?
Is it possible to find property that would be suitable to living in for longer than a couple of weeks?I suppose most of the property advertised is only suitable as a holiday home.
Anybody out there living in Egypt for longer than a couple of weeks who can give some advice?

Hi Porterspet,
To answer your question - you can quite easily live here all year round.
Can I ask you? Why that question?
I have lived here now for 5 years with no problems at all.
Originally came on the usual 3 month visitor's visa and have renewed for 1 year since then.
Anything else, just let me know.

As Rik said, I live here too. Its easy to live here and accommodation is just fine for long term living.
I am sure either cynic or myself could answer any questions you may have.

Hi All,my main concerns were the type of housing available,as much of it seems to be what I would call "short stay holiday accomodation".Are there any web sites to look at that might have more suitable housing? My other concern was about how easy it is to get longer term visas. We would be thinking of possibly retiring there,so it would be a long term thing.
Please let me know what you think.

John, I rent my flat here in Luxor on a long term contract (5 years) but there are short term lets available in the same building. All of the seemingly "holiday" lets will probably be available for long term at a much reduced rate.
It all depends on where exactly you want to live, but even the Red Sea resorts will have many apartments for long term rent.
I do not know of any agents in the Red Sea resorts, but Mushtaq can probably help there, but I do know agents here in Luxor and there are also a number of "flat finding" men, who search for suitable accommodation, details of which are specified by you, on your behalf. They will also negotiate price and contract terms for you. I used one to find my flat, and it only cost me 100LE for his services and I got exactly the flat I needed at a price I wanted to pay, and no agents commissions to pay.

mushtaq is infamous around these parts
I have visited Sharm and Hurghada and found foreigners living there full time (rented and owned properties) there is wide range of properties available, If have contacts in Hurghada who can help locate a property short or long term rental.

Best option would be to go for a week or two and check out the areas, you can travel around Egypt quite easily and cheaply by flying to main areas.

There are plenty of agents here in Hurghada but please be aware
that not all the properties which they advertise are available. It
sometimes takes them ages to update their websites.

Every week another apartment block is going up so there is no
shortage of apartments/villas to rent - yes long term.

Rents compared to the UK are very reasonable although I think that
in a couple of years time Hurghada will have caught up with Sharm for
prices.
