Ramesseum?

Has anybody been to or seen Ramesseum? I've been reading about it and looking at some pictures and it seems absolutely breath taking. I'm a sucker for any ancient stonework.

Its a fantastic temple, and some of the statues are colossal! The main temple is large, but the site itself is enormous and its well worth getting out of the main area and exploring the outer areas.

Are there any tours or anything like that or is it more of a walk around and take a look sort of site?

Same Question

I have the same question. I would love to learn more about the temple. It's very interesting to me.

Whether you want a guide or not will depend on how much detail you want about the temple. Personally, its a nice walkabout place, with a good guide book and a little research first. Then if you enjoy it, go again with a good guide and really get into what its all about.

About how long is a guided tour? While I like taking them for all the information you get from the guide, sometimes I feel tours are too long and drawn out.

An organised tour would probably spend about an hour in the Ramesseum, not long enough in my view, but that's just personal preference. But it would give you a good overview and the important points would be explained.

I don't generally care for tours. But if you are really wanting to know the history alot of times a guide tour is great and then when you are done just leave some time to walk around and absorb everything you were told. I do this when visiting someplace new and really don't know or understand the whole history behind a certain site or area.
