my mums 80th birthday present
Hello, i am new to this forum and would like to ask your advice.
I have been to Egypt twice, once to Cairo and another time on a nile cruise and also stayed in Luxor, I had always wanted to go to Egypt since age 6 and was not disappointed at all and couldn't wait to return.
It is my mums 80th birthday in January and she has always wanted to go to Egypt and so that is my and my husband's present to her.
We will be staying at the Iberotel in Luxor for a week.
It has been 8 years since I have been to Luxor and things will obviously have changed.
Could you please tell me how much a taxi is from the airport to Luxor?
Where are the best places to eat?
I love silver jewellery, how much would I expect to pay?
Who is the best company to go on tours with?
Any tips or information which would else help my mother have a memorable birthday.
Thankyou

Luxor
Hi!
I am Brenda, living since long time in egypt. My home is Thebes West in Luxor.
At the moment I am working in Hurghada. If I would be there, I would guide you myself.
I understand, that you are 3 person.
What do you think? I have a wonderful family in Thebes West, and the father of the huge family is since 50 years into tourisme. I will give him your arrival datas,
and he will drive you the whole week and be your family for that time.
If you need a guide, he will bring him to you.
Give him for the transfer to the hotel 80 L.E.
If you have further questions, you can contact me, also phone me by Skype.
My "Baba" in Luxor will bring you to the best restaurants there. For sure he will offer you a dinner in his garden, which his family will provide for you. He will bring you to the best shops, and show you all nice hotels with beautiful gardens. There are garden hotels in Westbank, where you sit under palm trees, which you will never want to leave again...
If you will come next time, you can also rent my flat or another beautiful flat, I hope Luxor will become your home - like it is my home already.
Sincerely yours Brenda

80 LE Brenda? Good grief, prices seem to have gone up quite considerably.

Thanks for offering to help.
We do want to do our own thing when we are there, but your offer was greatly appreciated.
I did look at the other site and from other sites as well and have been told to pay no more than 60 egyptian pounds for a taxi, does this sound about right?
Thanks again for your kind offer

Yes definitely no more than 60 LE. If you are going to do your own thing, talk to your Taxi Driver and agree a price to take you to the Valley of the Kings. He will wait for you while you go round yourselves. This will be a lot cheaper than going on an organised tour and you will be able to take your time.
Hope you all have a great time.

Thanks for that Cynic. We do want to do our own thing, but can you give me an idea of how much we should pay to go over to the Valley of the Kings, like I said it has been 9 years since I last went to Luxor. Think we paid 10 egyptian pounds to a taxi driver. Also any idea how much we should pay a taxi to the Karnak Temple. Thanks for your advice.

Hi, I live in Luxor quite close the the Iberotel (previously novotel). taxi to Karnak would be about 10LE or a bus 25p
50 - 60LE to/from airport to East Bank (Iberotel is on East Bank) but if you are just picking up one at the airport note that normally in any country airport taxis are more expensive so you could be asked more. Haggle but accept 60-70LE if they wont budge. Some companies who you can arrange transport from will be more expensive than that.
Can get you a driver for valley of kings etc if you need one, I advise not to use tour companies who will heard you like sheep, easy to do it all yourself.
can I recommend a felucca? ok ok but it IS the only one fully owned by a Brit woman and a member here, think shes been a bit busy to post for a bit though as we both have.

I heard about Nefertari's brief advertisement for me! So here I am and yes, I am the only English woman who fully owns her own felucca, lock, stock and barrel.
Aqurarius! If you are interested please private message me. We specialise in "no hassle" sailing on the Nile, fixed price packages with a personal service. One of our packages is a specific Birthday celebration so if you would like more info let me know.
I can also help with providing transport and guides if required and can offer an airconditioned car to pick you up from the airport for 50LE if you are interested.
Whatever you do, have a wonderful holiday, the Iberotel isreally nice since they renovated it, stayed there myself in the summer!
