Scuba Diving

I've heard that the coral reefs here are fantastic. How hard would it be to go scuba diving here? Would it be possible to maybe get a "guide" of sorts? I think it would be a great way to enjoy time there.

I heard the same, diving there is suppose to be the best because there is very little activity, and the reefs are not damaged.

When I did my diving course in Sharm el Sheikh, I saw quite a lot of damage to the reefs, because there was so much diving activity in the area.

I would really like to go and check out Marsa Alam, there are plenty of dive centres, and you can get a sort of guide when diving, who know the local areas well and take you to safe places.

I've never been scuba diving, but have always thought it would be an awesome experience. Mushtaq, how long does it take to learn? Can it be done over the course of a couple of days, or does it take longer?

It's really worth doing, I had been wanting to do this for a long time, you can read about my course experience here http://www.egyptianliving.com/showthread.php?t=22

Most resorts are geared up for people coming on a week's holiday and doing the PADI course during their stay.

Hmm. I hope that increased traffic to Marsa Alam won't damage the reefs as has happened in Sharm el Sheikh...especially since they are calling Marsa the next Sharm! Are they making any steps to protect the reefs, while using them for tourism?

Did you do the Diving course there or Snorkel? I think even just Snorkeling you can see a lot there.
