^ Ive been meaning to read that for ages
I honestly cant remember the names of the films, but the egyptian series are really something. Noor Sheriff as "hajj Matwali" was probably the funniest one and definately the most memorable.

my favorite serials was Raya and Sekina ... The Yacoubian one my ex husband forced me to sit thru lol, but I liked all the serials really.
my favorite movies are Khalif in the American University and anything Limby...I also like anything with Yousra and Adel Hamam as well.

But my favorite of all time is 'Bahr el Gharam' with Roshdy Abaza and a very young (and brunette) Sabah. Such a beautiful movie and her character reminds me a lot of myself.
I prefer classic Egyptian movies and music over the new more commercialized stuff.

yes i agree miss tami, I prefer classical arabic music to this nonsense nowdays - they just try too hard to imitate western music videos - but do a poor job at that even.

But a modern artist who really does capture the classical style and has to be the Iraqi singer Kazem Al Saher

Love his song Baghdad, listen

wow thanks!
recently i just bought fadel shaker, sharat tarab...it has all my favorite oldies....i love how the music is like in layers...totally capturing the feeling.
like they start out really slow and sad like the feeling you first get with heartbreak, then escalates to a faster beat, which is like the anger you feel after the initial blow of heartbreak where you just question, 'why!!!', then dies down again into an accepting but sad and unfulfillable longing.

I can sit and listen to these 10 minute songs all night, and I have already danced to the whole cd.

Have you seen our Arabic Jukebox on the left-hand side in the 'Fun' section - check it out a few tracks there, although maybe need more of the classical type. Can be added later.
