By boat?
Has anyone travelled from Greece to Egypt by boat? Is it even possible? I would like to visit both countries, and prefer not to fly if possible. Travelling by boat and train is so much more scenic, even if it takes a lot longer.

I tried to find ferry service to Alexandria, but couldn't find any.
Maybe the just cruise companies stop at Alex?

Thanks, that is a big help. It is just something more interesting than a quick flight! How safe are these cruises, does anyone know? You hear about boats capsizing over there all the time.

I'm not familiar with traveling from Greece to Egypt by boat, but have you considered a Nile cruise?
I understand that there are five star cruises available, and I've read excellent testimonial about the "MS Star of Luxor" in particular.

Nile cruise? Sounds lovely, but I somehow doubt that I would be unable to afford it. I wonder how much it would be to take a boat from Greece to Egypt...that would be very convenient, since I want to visit both places. Why not do so in the same trip?

There are usually pretty good deals on Nile Cruises, as it's only a large boat with cabins, not like a luxury liner.

I've done 4 or 5 Nile Cruises now.... you can book direct for something in the region of £30 sterling a night. That would include all your excursions, meals and a really comfortable ensuite cabin. The only extras you would have would be drinks and tips.
Nile cruises operate from Luxor to Aswan and back again, stopping off at many of the temples en route. A round trip takes a week. But you can do either leg..... Luxor to Aswan or Aswan to Luxor.
Its a lovely way to see Egypt drift by as you sail up the Nile!
Also, if my memory serves me right, Michael Palin sailed from Turkey to Egypt in his documentary Pole to Pole. He used ferries and went via Cyprus I think.(Or it may be in the documentary Around the World in 80 days, but I think its Pole to Pole) Maybe a search on the net would find out how he did it.
