Talking Egypt - here I come!

Well, I couldn't take it any more and booked a flight to Cairo for Monday

I'm going to spend couple of days in Cairo (my 1st trip there) do the touristy stuff and then head down to Luxor for few days, have not decided how yet, but most probably by train.

What sort of weather can I expect during the next week in those two places, what sort of clothes should I pack?

What are the must see places you would recommend in these two cities?

Wow, a last minute trip, eh? I envy you! It looks like it is going to be pretty hot (80s and 90s) while you are there, so pick some loose and comfortable clothes than aren't too...revealing. Bring along some good shoes if you expect to do lots of walking.

I think it was Friday when the temp was about 35 C and heavy dust/sand. Hopefully it will be cooler for you.
Have a great trip!

Lucky you. You'll have to come back on the site and let us know how the trip was. One of the things I have always heard you should make sure to see is the Egyptian Museum. I believe if I am not mistaken it is right in the middle of Cario. Have a great and safe trip.

Thumbs up Went to Cairo Museum

Went to the Cairo Museum today, entry fee seem to have gone up to 50LE for adults (Rough Guide has it listed as 40LE)

There is so much there to see, the place is full of antiquities, some of the areas looked like a warehouse, with crates all over the place, don't know if they were being shipped out or new arrivals.

I was looking forward to taking some pictures of the exhibits, but there were signs all over the place telling you - no cameras or phones although the Rough Guide says you can take pictures if you pay extra 10 LE.

The best exhibit has to be the Tutankhamun Exhibition, it was just amazing, worth coming to Cairo for that alone I think. Pity I couldn't take pictures, but I manged to sneak a few quick ones.

There is also another exhibition of the Royal Mummies, this costs an additional 100LE, not a great deal in there except a handful of mummies, not sure if it's worth the extra 100 LE
