Good question Toshka, from an Islamic perspective, Islam wasn't founded by Muhammad. In fact Islam is the religion of all the prophets of God - starting with Adam.
We believe in the previous scriptures of the People of the Book (Christians and Jews) but it is believed such scriptures have been changed/corrupted over the many years. So we believe in the same prophets as are mentioned in the Old and New Testament.
Also from hadeeth (sayings of the Prophet, which is separate from Quran [word of God]) Muhammad said that there are some 124 thousand prophets in total - and that every nation has been sent at least one prophet calling to the worship of the One God. 25 of these prophets are mentioned by name in the Quran.
This verse is from the Qu'ran (2:136)
Say (O Muslims): We believe in Allah and that which is revealed unto us and that which was revealed unto Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the tribes, and that which Moses and Jesus received, and that which the Prophets received from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and unto Him we have surrendered.
So in Islam we accept ALL the Prophets of God BUT we do not make any disctinction between them - we do not worship or give them attributes that only Allah has or give them any share in God's divinity.
The most fundamental aspect of Islam is Al Tawheed - The Oneness of God.
