The women behind the men

In the United States, the First Lady has various duties that she is expected to peform while her husband is in office, most of which include helping to entertain the visiting dignitaries that visit the White House. However, she also has time to work on projects that are special to her - one of which is literacy among children, since she used to be a school teacher.

I've noticed that Mrs. Mubarak, who holds the same position as Mrs. Bush, also has her "pet projects" that she is involved in - chairing the Advisory Board to the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, ensuring that the children of Egypt will prosper.

I think it's great that these women are given the opportunity to support not only their husbands, but also their nations, by taking leadership positions in organizations that are humanitarian in nature.

She's an interesting lady with degrees in both political science and sociology!
I would love to hear from Egyptians if they like her and if they think she is successful in her projects. Does she indeed make a difference?

I think being first lady is a very good opportunity to do some good and get involved in social issues. Most first ladies seem to do that so maybe it is part of being the wife of an elected official.

I think that this is great of women to use the power they have been given to do good things in the world. First lady's have brought attention to things where attention might never have gotten.

That's a very worthwhile position. I'm not familiar with Mrs. Mubarak. I'd be interested in seeing the news coverage if she visited Canada.

As for Mrs. Bush we don't hear a great deal about her here. The Bush daughters have made the news a few times with some teenage partying, though.
