Dominoes

I didn't realize till yesterday that the oldest known domino set was found in Tutankhamen's tomb, among the ruins of Thebes.

I had a set as a child and I've seen coworkers playing dominoes on their down time, but I didn't associate the game with Egypt before.

Did you know about this?

Taggart, where do you come up with this stuff?

No, I didn't realize that dominos were found in Tutankhamen's tomb. But if he was as young as he was reported as being, I can see where something like a game might be important to him. Besides, I think you can learn strategy from the game, so possibly it was MORE than just a game.

I had never heard of this either. I never even thought to connect the game with Egypt. But I am not a very big fan of the game either. But that is very interesting.

I saw it mentioned on a list of interesting facts on the net somewhere!

That's an interesting point about learning strategy from the game. I also find it amusing watching how aggressively some players slap down the dominoes when they make a good move.

Stunning! No idea where they came from!

Do you think they were originally a game or some sort of counting method?
I know nada about the history of dominoes.

Really? I didn't know dominoes existed back then! The only game I know they played was something called "Senat" (pronounced like "senate" I believe). What an interesting factoid!

What is Senat? What kind of tools does it involve? Like cards or something?
I'd be curious about that onetoo.

I would have thought it was originally a game, but that's an interesting question. And I wonder what materials they were made from? I'd think possibly bones or hardwood?

I am curious as to what Senat is also? Maybe I will google it and see what I can find. If I find anything I will let you know.
